Sammy Njoroge ‘Saich’ once imagined himself as a professional football player.

Njoroge, who was born in Githurai and attended a football academy, was one of the standouts who made an impression and even received sponsorships to travel to Thailand, the Netherlands, and Norway to meet up with other aspiring football players in Europe.

Njoroge was meant to wear the national colors of Kenya, and his future was gleamingly bright. However, he suffered a serious knee injury in 2018 while competing in the arid Koth Biro grounds, effectively ending his career.

He needed specialized care, which came to a staggering Sh. 500,000 to treat the injuries. Njoroge didn’t have this money, and his parents couldn’t afford to borrow it either.

“I was stressed and suffering a lot staying in the house and thinking how life had become unbearable,” he said in a recent interview.

Despite the difficulties, he has managed to make a profession out of producing material. He claimed to make between Sh. 80,000 and Sh. 100,000 from content in a recent interview with one of the local stations.

“As we speak, I get at least between Ksh80,000 to Ksh100,000 through content creation. Through this ball, I share my smile with the world,” he shared.

“Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, and the way you make others feel is your trademark,” the content creator encouraged.

Football School

Because of his injury, he was unable to play professional football and instead chose to become a physical trainer.

Then he made the decision to follow his dream of teaching young kids how to play football.

Unfortunately, the pandemic struck, and since the kids weren’t out and about, the training had to halt.

Content creation

He was requested to begin producing content. He was greatly inspired by watching people like David Moya and Khaby and wanted to do something new.

He chose to challenge a stranger on the streets one day as he was strolling without any destination in mind or fare.

Around the footbridge near Safari Park, she came upon a woman carrying a baby in a carrier. The woman kicked the ball that Njoroge had thrown at her.

“She didn’t score but her smile was infectious,” the content creator recalled.

The video became popular after being posted online by the Tiktoker. The next day, he checked his phone and was astounded to see how much engagement the video had gotten.

It appears that the mom had just left the hospital after bringing her child there for care.

It was also her birthday, so when she started trending, she contacted Njoroge to thank him for making what had otherwise seemed like a sad day more cheerful.

Challenge on Tiktok

He began by strolling the city with his toy goalpost and ball in hand. He issues scoring challenges to a variety of people and records their real reactions.

Currently, Njoroge’s official Tiktok account (@Sammy Saich) has more than 2.1 million likes and at least 322k followers.

The content creator traveled to Dubai in November 2022 for the Globe Soccer Awards, where he had the chance to meet outstanding football players including Rooney, Ibrahimovic, and Mohamed Salah.

Njoroge also got to meet Khaby Lame, a well-known Tiktok phenomenon who is his idol. He is still motivated to open a football academy.
