The United States has announced grants for Kenyan youth worth Ksh6 million for each successful applicant under the US Embassy Nairobi, Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) Nairobi.
In a statement on Thursday, January 26, the aim of the program is to enhance ideas that strengthen cultural, academic and professional ties between US and Kenya.
All ideas were, however, required to include an American cultural element, and must have a connection with American experts or organizations that will promote an increased understanding of US policy.
“Priority will be given to proposals with creative, new approaches not previously or recently funded through the Public Diplomacy Section’s Annual Program Statement,” the statement read in part.
Areas outside the five most significant metropolitan areas (Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret) will be prioritized.
In addition, civil society leaders, social influencers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, established opinion leaders and underrepresented groups and communities were encouraged to apply.
Programs that were left out of the funding scheme include programs relating to partisan political activity, charitable activities, construction programs, programs that support specific religious activities and fund-raising campaigns.
